When we first began looking for ways to travel during our retirement years, as I stated in The Beginning, we realized quickly that maintaining a home here in BC and travelling often would not work in our budget, so we gave up having a regular “home” and instead, wherever we happen to be is “home”. When we are on the road, we don’t have expenses to keep up back in BC, so are able to afford more in the way of travel.
However, we were also searching for ways to maximize our dollars and so began searching the universe of Google to find answers to our quest. Our first find was for Nomadic Matt. He has some great tips for travelling the world on a tight budget and we found many of his ideas very helpful. One that we use always now is to buy everything with our travel points credit card (make sure you pay it off each month!). This has allowed us to fly to several locations without breaking the bank. https://www.nomadicmatt.com/.
Our next find was Hectic Travels, a blog written by a couple of fellow Canadians. They have managed to travel the world by house sitting. They have been everywhere and have had some fantastic experiences. We have checked out house sitting, and did spend a month just south of my home town of Seattle last year house sitting for some friends. It was a great way to be in an area and experience what there was to offer without having to pay for hotels. We enjoyed our time doggy sitting a lovely little guy named Truffle, so it was a win win! We have more ideas about how to keep those prices down as well as possibly adding to our income, so stay tuned!
